Dagga bust and stolen car recovery — Flying squad makes multiple arrests

EMPD officers from the Edleen Precinct conducted a stop-and-search operation on May 28 at Zuurfontein and Parkland roads, inspecting vehicles for roadworthiness and safety compliance.

Benoni Flying Squad members arrested four suspects and recovered a stolen motor vehicle between June 2 and 8.

On Saturday at around 12:30, members pulled over a white BMW with two occupants on the R555 in Etwatwa.

According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, media liaison officer, a search of the vehicle uncovered three large, wrapped parcels of dagga.

The suspects were immediately arrested.

A charge of attempted bribery was added after the suspects allegedly offered officers R1 500 for their release.

The dagga, estimated to be worth around R50 000, along with the cash, was handed in as evidence.

In a separate operation on June 8, a 37-year-old suspect was arrested in Hamilton Street, Brakpan, after members recovered two packets of nyaope (heroin).

Additionally, another 37-year-old suspect was arrested at Lakeside Mall for shoplifting. A white Volkswagen Polo, reported stolen in a Brakpan case, was also recovered abandoned at Springs Mall following a tip-off from a tracking company.

Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will appear in local Magistrate’s Courts on charges related to drug possession, dealing, and other offences.
