Compassionate leadership at the heart of councillor’s journey
Guided by strong morals and a clear vision, Lourenco was active in her community even before becoming a councillor.
Realising that the Kempton Park community deserves strong, compassionate leadership, Ward 104 councillor Tracey Lourenco embarked on her journey into public service in May 2011.
“Kempton Park holds a special place in my heart. I see potential in every corner,” she said.
Guided by strong morals and a clear vision, Lourenco was active in her community even before becoming a councillor, standing up for what was right.

Her core values are rooted in honesty and the belief that everyone deserves a clean, safe and thriving environment.
“I believe you must lead with integrity and empathy. I am proactive and caring, and compassion is vital to doing the job of a councillor today. Family is very important to me — I have two daughters and three amazing grandsons who are my world,” she shared.
Though becoming a councillor was not always her dream, her activism began in 2010 when she fought pollution caused by a neighbouring factory.

“That passion for public service eventually led to her election. “I didn’t have all the answers, but I was determined to learn,” she said.
Lourenco matriculated from Greendale High School in 1986 and spent ten years in insurance before moving into marketing, where she specialised in tribology and earned several certificates in sales and marketing.

Since becoming a councillor, she has completed numerous training programmes to strengthen her ability to serve the community.
Her years in office have been transformative. “I’ve learnt to face criticism with grace and celebrate the smallest victories with gratitude. This journey has taught me that the job is about sacrifice and standing up when it’s hard,” she explained.
Challenges persist, particularly limited resources and bureaucratic delays when urgent solutions are needed.
“It is very frustrating when infrastructure and service delivery are at an all-time low. Letting residents down is truly heartbreaking,” she said.
Despite these difficulties, Lourenco focuses on improving service delivery, advocating for infrastructure upgrades, and maintaining communication through regular updates.
Leadership, she says, is about consistent effort rather than quick wins. She is actively involved in community outreach, motions, and petitions addressing issues affecting her ward.
“Being a ward councillor has taught me to appreciate the diverse needs and perspectives of residents. Listening is key and trust is earned. Not everyone will like you, but you must keep going,” she said.

Looking ahead, Lourenco envisions a flourishing ward where residents feel safe and proud to live. Her priorities include improved infrastructure, green public spaces, affordable housing, youth employment opportunities, and a thriving local economy.
“Working with people of different mindsets can be challenging, but it often leads to good results. Clashing viewpoints force you to challenge your assumptions and build bridges for the greater good,” Lourenco reflected.
“I want a community that is clean, beautiful and safe, with a thriving economy. Most of all, I want a community where residents are proud and hopeful for the future.”
