Councillor expresses concerns over recent power outage in Kempton Park
He said that he is uneasy about the recent power outages caused by poor maintenance on Eskom structure.

FF Plus Clr Jean Kriek recently expressed concern over the latest power outage in Kempton Park, attributing it to poor maintenance of Eskom infrastructure.
“Early in 2025, a tree fell on Eskom overhead conductors in Kempton Park, causing significant damage to a circuit breaker.
“This disrupted the power supply and resulted in an oil leak, which also caused environmental pollution,” said Kriek.

He pointed out Eskom is legally required to maintain its infrastructure, including vegetation management under high-voltage power lines.
He emphasised the incident was avoidable had Eskom fulfilled its obligation.
“In a separate incident last year, one Eskom overhead line fell across the road between Pretoria and OR Tambo International Airport.
“Proactive measures could prevent such potentially hazardous situations,” Kriek added.
He said the residents of Kempton Park and the greater Ekurhuleni region deserve a reliable and safe electricity supply.
“I will continue to hold Eskom and the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) accountable to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to fight for our residents’ rights and demanding improved service delivery.”
CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini reaffirmed the city’s commitment to providing quality and sustainable services.
“We will continue to invest in infrastructure maintenance to ensure our services remain reliable and predictable,” Dlamini stated.
The Kempton Express sent an inquiry to Eskom on January 15, requesting a response by midday on January 20.
