Chef Tshegofatso Moiloa spreads love at Tawana Children’s Home

Tshegofatso Moiloa spend a day with Tawana Community Children’s Home and share a meal with them.

Chef Tshegofatso “Tgom” Moiloa, founder of Plated by Tgom, recently spent a memorable day with the children of Tawana Community NPO Children’s Home.

Joined by his team, Moiloa cooked for the children and treated them to lunch, popcorn, party packs, and fun activities. The children enjoyed delicious meals, played on a jumping castle, and saved their party packs for school.

Inspired by stories he had heard about the home from a close friend, Moiloa chose Tawana as the focus of his outreach to show the children that they are loved, seen, and valued.

“The purpose of cooking for the shelter was to bring joy, comfort, and a sense of celebration to the children,” Moiloa said.

“It wasn’t just about a meal; it was about showing them that they are worthy of beautiful experiences and that someone cares enough to create something special just for them.”

Although founder Sylvia Mofokeng could not attend, her daughter Felicia expressed her gratitude: “We are happy as the runners of the orphanage. We really appreciate what everyone is doing for us because not everyone can do this for the children.

“They are enjoying their day, playing and enjoying their food. We love and appreciate what the team did and hope they will visit again.”

The project was made possible through the support of Ashleigh Chingwaro, founder of Sparkle of Hope Empowerment Charity Foundation. Her organisation collaborated with Plated by Tgom to plan the menu, activities, and logistics for the day.

“One candle can ignite countless more,” Chingwaro said. “We believed Tshegofatso’s vision was worth igniting. It’s beautiful to see the young generation with a vision so big, and being part of it was an honour. Plated by Tgom showcased their talent and passion while putting smiles on the children’s faces.”

Moiloa’s journey as a chef began in 2023 when he enrolled at Capsicum Culinary Studio.

He later gained professional kitchen experience at Level Seven Restaurant and Skybar, which inspired him to launch Plated by Tgom. Based in Boksburg, the brand focuses on personal chef services and intimate, bespoke dining experiences.

For Moiloa, food is more than a craft. It is a love language. His vision for Plated by Tgom goes beyond fine dining, using creativity, care, and connection to make a meaningful impact, whether in homes, at events, or through community projects like Tawana.
