Gauteng schools invited to enter AACL 2025 poster and poetry competition
Primary school learners across Gauteng are invited to enter the Animal Anti-Cruelty League Johannesburg’s annual competition, showcasing their creativity through art and poetry to promote kindness and care towards animals.
Young animal lovers across Gauteng are encouraged to unleash their creativity and support animal welfare by entering the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) Johannesburg’s Annual School Poster & Poetry Competition 2025.
Open to all primary school learners in the province, the competition challenges children to design a poster or write a poem highlighting the importance of kindness and care towards animals. Entries should carry a clear, catchy message and can use any artistic style or poetic form.
Top entries will receive R2 000 each in the following categories:
Art: Grades one to two, grades three to five, grades six to seven
Poetry: Grades five to seven
A variety of merit prizes will also be awarded, sponsored by Animaltalk Magazine, Acrobranch, Cartoon Candy, Dean’s Stationers, Lifestyle Pet Hyper, Lillian Gray Art Studio, gg’s Café, Capmor Stationers, Facades Hair Studio, and Hero in the Hood.

How to enter
Posters: Use paint, crayons, or pencils on A4 or A3 paper. Do not fold or frame entries.
Poems: Any of South Africa’s 11 official languages, no longer than 16 lines, and must be original work.
All entries must include the child’s full name, age, grade, category entered, school name, and a parent or school contact number. Each learner may submit up to two entries.

Poems: Email to educate@aacl-jhbnb.co.za
A voluntary donation is welcome to support AACL Johannesburg’s ongoing work in caring for and protecting animals.
All entries must be submitted by October 31. Top finalists and winners will be showcased on the AACL JHB Facebook page (www.facebook.com/AACLJHB, and winners will be contacted individually by November or December 2025.
