Their powerful performance, Taking Back My Narrative, impressed judges and outshone tough competition from Menlo Park and Hoërskool Kempton Park.
After months of hard work, dedication, and countless rehearsals, Hoërskool Jeugland claimed first place in the Revue competition (Kaleidoscope) at the Tshwane Youth Arts Festival, held at the State Theatre in Pretoria.
The Intermediate High Schools category saw fierce competition, with Menlo Park finishing second and Hoërskool Kempton Park taking third place.

Educator and Revue organiser Maylene du Plooy praised the performers and their choreographer, Brandon van der Vyver, for their commitment. “Our choreographer has the biggest passion for Jeugie Revue, as an old Jeugie himself.
“Our performers took the stage with energy and the determination of champions; we are so proud of them. Winning was a huge privilege,” she said.
Grade 12 performer Kayleigh Pretorius shared that the journey was both challenging and rewarding. “I have always loved performing and wanted to be part of something bigger than myself. The highlight for me was the final competition; everything we worked so hard on came together perfectly. Winning first place felt amazing, especially since we had never placed before,” she said.
The team faced the challenge of fitting rehearsals into a busy school calendar filled with sports and exams. Despite this, their passion for performing arts and their support for one another was evident throughout.

Another Grade 12 learner, Kamohelo Ramaema, joined the revue because of her love of dancing and her admiration for the creativity involved.
“Watching other schools perform was intimidating at first, but when the second-place winner was announced, I knew first place was ours. Being last to perform gave us the opportunity to close the show with a bang,” she said.
