Heritage Day celebration at Bean Tree Café with Queen of Africa Bianca Birnie

Customers and staff celebrate Heritage Day in their respective attires.

Staff and customers at Bean Tree Café and Spar Bredell celebrated Heritage Day on September 24 by embracing traditional attire, music, and culture, while spreading kindness and joy throughout the day.

Bianca Birnie, Queen of Africa, was the guest of honour. She danced with customers of all ages and handed out gifts to children, sharing messages of peace, unity, and humanity.

“I was promoting peace and kindness. Every year, I try to do something special and make a difference, regardless of heritage, race, creed, or culture.

“It was touching to see children light up over the smallest gifts, and it reminded me of the impact we can have on someone’s life,” Birnie shared.

Staff members proudly wore traditional attire representing Zulu, Tswana, Pedi, Venda, Xitsonga, and other South African cultures. Music from across the country played throughout the day, and customers joined in singing and dancing, creating a vibrant celebration of diversity.

Debbie Smith, café manager, said inviting Birnie was the perfect way to celebrate Heritage Day.

“Bianca is amazing, and everyone loves her. She takes time to connect with people, and her presence was ideal for this celebration.Our goal was to promote love, unity, and quality time spent together, and judging by the smiles and excitement, I think we succeeded,” Smith said.

Children enjoyed dancing, receiving gifts, and soaking in the festive atmosphere, while the café itself was a colourful display of South Africa’s rich cultural heritage.

“It was incredible. Everyone looked beautiful, and it’s amazing to see people of different races wearing traditional attire.

“It shows love, unity, and peace. If the world continues like this, there will be eternal joy and harmony. This is the South Africa we want to see,” said Bredell resident Dimakatso Malatji.
