The last round of work includes bulk sewer connections for the ablution facilities, testing of pumps, balancing and chlorinating the pool water, as well as a thorough round of cleaning and quality checks before handover.

Once operational, the facility is set to become a major social and recreational hub for the greater Midrand community, including Ivory Park, Kaalfontein, and nearby neighbourhoods.

The new complex will boast an Olympic-style swimming pool, a splash pool, and grandstand seating for spectators.

JDA CEO, Themba Mathibe, said the agency had made the project a priority after initial delays.

“This project was among those that had experienced setbacks. Once we took over as the new management, we resolved the outstanding town planning matters and ensured water and electricity connections were finalised,” Mathibe added.

“For us as the JDA, this project is about more than just building a pool; it’s about creating inclusive spaces that uplift communities, foster healthier lifestyles, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of our city.”

The Ivory Park Swimming Pool Complex will join more than 50 public swimming pools already in operation across Johannesburg’s seven regions.

According to the JDA, the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to redress historic infrastructure backlogs while promoting safe and vibrant neighbourhoods.

Community members can look forward to the official opening soon, with the JDA expressing confidence that the facility will encourage healthier lifestyles, create recreation opportunities, and bring people together.
