Early morning crash in Bredell leaves one dead, several injured

Emergency services responded just before 6am, finding multiple passengers with injuries ranging from minor to critical.

One person was killed and thirteen others injured in a collision involving two minibus taxis at the intersection of the R23 and 1st Road in Bredell early this morning, October 7.

According to the City of Ekurhuleni Emergency Services, the alarm was raised at approximately 05:48, and fire and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene.

On arrival, crews found two taxis with multiple passengers requiring medical attention.

Thirteen people were treated on the scene for injuries:

  • One person sustained critical injuries.

  • Six people were moderately injured.

  • Six others sustained minor injuries.

All injured patients were treated by various emergency medical services and transported to nearby hospitals for further care.

An adult male was declared dead on the scene. His body was removed by the Gauteng Forensic Pathology Services.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The scene has been handed over to the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) for further investigation.
