Firefighters contain house fire sparked by solar inverter

DEMS firefighters took over from private security in Glen Marais and brought the fire under control at around 17:00 on Friday.

Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) firefighters responded to a house fire on Driedoring Street, Glen Marais, after receiving a call at 16:32 on Friday, October 24.

Crews from the Albertina Sisulu Fire Station attended to the scene.

“On arrival, private security personnel were already on-site,” said DEMS spokesperson William Ntladi.

DEMS firefighters took over and quickly brought the fire under control, preventing what could have been a devastating incident.

After conducting a risk assessment, it was determined that the solar inverter had caught alight.

The flames were successfully extinguished before they could spread to the rest of the property.

No injuries or casualties were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
