No lights, no answers! Residents slam city over extended outage

Angry residents have urged the City of Ekurhuleni to act as Pomona and Bredell face fifth day without electricity.

Many residents in Pomona and Bredell remain without electricity days after outages first hit the area on Friday evening, October 31, and patience is wearing thin.

In countless messages to the Kempton Express, residents have expressed growing frustration, with some threatening to deliver their spoiled food to the City of Ekurhuleni’s offices and barricade roads if power is not restored soon.

Others have described the ongoing blackout as a “crisis of service delivery and dignity,” citing thousands of rands in food losses, disrupted family routines, and damage to electronics.

In an email sent to the Kempton Express, resident Amelia Sutherland said the continued lack of communication and accountability from the municipality had left families “grappling with unseen losses and unwelcome disruption,” while emphasising that ward councillors are not responsible for technical repairs.

The Kempton Express has requested official comment from the City of Ekurhuleni regarding the cause of the outage, progress of repairs, and compensation for affected residents.

Their response will form part of continued coverage on this developing story.
