Kempton Park SAPS brings festive safety drive to elderly and vulnerable residents

Kempton Park SAPS led a community outreach at Allen Park and Maxwell Road, delivering food parcels and sharing vital festive-season safety tips to protect the elderly and families from scams and crime.

Kempton Park SAPS Crime Prevention officers joined hands with various stakeholders for a community outreach project on November 27, visiting the Council for the Aged Kempton Park in Allen Park.

The initiative saw officers and partners deliver food parcels to residents and provide festive season safety tips to protect the elderly from fraud, scams, and theft.

“We gave the elderly festive season safety tips, as well as advice on the dos and don’ts when withdrawing money safely at ATMs. Fraudsters, scammers and thieves often target elderly people,” said Sergeant Ntombifuthi Abrokwa.

“We also gave them bread and T-shirts, donated as a small Christmas gift by the Nizamiye: Time to Care group.”

The outreach reflects the stakeholders’ commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for the community.

The initiative did not stop at the shelter.

The team also visited a squatter camp on Maxwell Road, Kempton Park, where they emphasised the importance of communication within households to reduce cases of gender-based violence.

Residents received T-shirts and bread, while McDonald’s Barber offered free haircuts as an early Christmas gift.

Stakeholders also donated food parcels for a pre-school in the camp, helping to ensure children have breakfast and lunch, as many currently rely on meals brought from home.

The successful outreach involved Kempton Park SAPS operational commander (Social Crime Prevention), POWA, the Youth Crime Prevention Desk, Nizamiye: Time to Care, the CSC commander and other partners.
