No end in sight to prolonged water outage affecting local residents

Glen Eagles and Glen Erasmia residents have been without water for nearly 48 hours. Clr Desmond McKenzie has called for urgent answers.

Residents of Glen Eagles and Glen Erasmia have been without water for almost 48 hours, with no indication of when the supply will be restored.

According to City of Ekurhuleni Ward 91 councillor Desmond McKenzie, residents were previously informed by the City’s Water Department that water services would be restored by 15:00 today.

However, that deadline passed without the supply being reinstated.

McKenzie said the lack of communication from the department has added to residents’ frustration.

“The Water Department previously advised that the water supply would be restored by 15:00 today. However, that deadline has come and gone, and residents remain without water.

“Even more concerning is the complete lack of an official update from the Department explaining the delay or providing a revised restoration timeline,” he said.

McKenzie described the situation as unacceptable, saying residents are entitled to both reliable service delivery and transparent communication from the City.

“Families, elderly residents and businesses have been severely impacted by this prolonged outage,” he added.

The councillor has called on the Water Department to urgently provide residents with a detailed update on the cause of the delay, an estimated restoration time and information on measures being implemented to assist affected communities.

“Residents deserve answers, accountability and immediate action,” said McKenzie.

At the time of publication, no further update had been provided regarding the restoration of water services.
