Mandela Day brings community together to support vulnerable residents
More than 20 non-profit organisations, together with Kempton Park SAPS and community partners, donated food, clothing and blankets to vulnerable residents during a Mandela Day initiative.
Tshegofatsa Rona Welfare, together with 20 non-profit organisations and Kempton Park SAPS, joined forces to celebrate Mandela Day at the Kempton Park Civic Centre on July 18.
The initiative honoured the legacy of former president Nelson Mandela through acts of community service and support for those in need.
The event was supported by various stakeholders, including the Chinese Consulate General, Buffalo Logistics, Puleng March Foundation, the Chinese Business Forum and other community partners.

Tshegofatsa Rona Welfare founder Cynthia Dinalane, together with the participating organisations, ensured that vulnerable NPOs received donations of clothing, food parcels and meals.
During her address, Dinalane expressed her gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed towards supporting organisations caring for vulnerable children, elderly residents and abused women, particularly during the cold winter months.
As part of the Mandela Day programme, Kempton Park SAPS members and Sector One Community Policing Forum (CPF) members visited Elgin Squatter Camp, where they donated 60 blankets to residents.

Kempton Park SAPS Colonel Motsatsi Lesomo said the initiative aimed to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the community.
“During the 2026 Mandela Day, this squatter camp was identified as one of the many underprivileged camps in the sector.
“We hope this gesture will bridge the gap between the community and SAPS, ensuring the oath taken by committed men and women in blue is fulfilled by being the eyes and ears of law enforcement, helping to better our community and fight against crime,” said Lesomo.
