EMPD cracks down on non-compliant taxis and e-hailing vehicles
Twenty-two public transport and e-hailing vehicles were impounded for various road traffic violations during a joint Ekurhuleni operation.
The EMPD Taxi Task Team, in collaboration with the Gauteng Traffic Police and SAPS members, impounded eight minibus taxis and 14 e-hailing service vehicles operating in Alberton and Kempton Park between August 4 and 5, for failing to comply with the provisions of the National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996.
EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Kelebogile Thepa said the joint law enforcement operation focused on ensuring compliance by public transport and e-hailing vehicles.

Roadblocks and vehicle inspections were conducted at Mitchell Street in Alberton and Voortrekker Road in Kempton Park.
“During the operation, officers identified several infringements, including vehicles operating without the required operating permits and operator cards. In addition, several vehicles were found to be unroadworthy, failing to meet the safety standards prescribed by the National Road Traffic Act.”
All non-compliant vehicles were impounded and taken to the Alberton EMPD Vehicle Pound and the Gauteng Provincial Vehicle Pound for further administrative processes.
