The Parliament revamps walkways at Thembisa school
School walkway gets a revamp during Mandela day.
Staff from The Parliament, a newly established business in Maokeng, Thembisa, spent their 67 Minutes for Mandela Day giving back to the community by repainting walkways at Entsonalanga Secondary School.
The team chose to support the school, located just a short distance from their offices, as part of their commitment to making a positive impact within their immediate community.
The day began with a 5km walk through Thembisa before staff arrived at the school to begin the revamp project.

According to the organisation, the initiative reflects its belief that meaningful community development begins close to home.
James Maruma, an overseer at The Parliament, said the organisation wanted to invest its time and resources in a neighbouring school that it had previously supported.
“If you want to help people willingly, you should first look at your surroundings and appreciate those who are closest to you. For us, that meant giving back to our local community,” he said.
“The aim of the day was to empower, inspire and dedicate our time to something meaningful. We are grateful to be part of the growth taking place in this community and believe it is important to give back to the people who support us.”

Maruma said employees from different departments, together with teachers, participated in the initiative.
“We chose Entsonalanga Secondary School because we have worked with the school before and have continued to stay involved. Being only about a kilometre from our offices also helped us identify some of the school’s current needs,” he said.
Entsonalanga Secondary School principal Ntombi Sekopana thanked the organisation for its contribution.
“I am overwhelmed by what they have done for our school. Their actions reflect the true spirit of Mandela Day by helping those in need and strengthening our community.
“This is a wonderful way to honour Nelson Mandela’s legacy while supporting education, and we are truly grateful for their generosity,” she said.
