Cashbuild awards schools in Thembisa with renovation vouchers

Cashbuild rewarded schools with vouchers for building material to renovate their premises.

Cashbuild held an Art-at-Heart competition and schools from Thembisa participated.

Cashbuild Thembisa Plaza store hosted an Art-at-Heart ceremony recently to reward the eight victorious schools.

The Art-at-Heart competition is a Southern African Cashbuild initiative where donations are made to some of the region’s most needy schools.

The children from the winning schools entertained those in attendance during the ceremony with singing, cultural dancing, and theatrical performances.

Cashbuild Thembisa Plaza awarded the eight winning schools a total of R120 000 in building material vouchers to help them upgrade their premises.

The eight schools that won the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition were each also given an R15 000 Cashbuild building materials voucher to use towards any necessary repairs or upgrades for their school buildings or grounds.

Khatlamping Primary School was one of the eight schools that received a Cashbuild voucher.

The school’s principal, Mary Mtsweni, said she was happy to have won the prize.

“With this voucher, we would like to upgrade the computer lab by fixing the walls. Our feeding area needs to be painted and we need to repair the floor and buy a sink for washing dishes.

“We would then also like to build a feeding area structure for the pupils to enjoy their meals so that they are protected from the harsh weather,” she said.

Umthambeka Primary School also received the R15 000 Cashbiuld building material voucher.

“This voucher will be put to good use. We will be painting walls inside the classrooms and repairing ceilings around the school – so thank you, Cashbuild,” said the school’s deputy principal, Jerry Mohlake.

The competition saw learners in each participating school submit their best artwork to Cashbuild.

The artworks were judged and three winners from each school were named.

Winners received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver, and bronze certificates for first, second and third place, respectively.

The manager’s choice and overall winner of the artwork competition were awarded to a learner from Seotlona Primary School.

This award was announced on the day, and the winning learner received a backpack with stationery and a trophy.
The winner was also given the honour of officially opening the new store.

Since the launch of the competition 23 years ago, Cashbuild has provided building supplies valued at over R55m to over 4 000 schools in South Africa.
