Laerskool Kruinsig welcomes first female principal

Learners and staff honoured new principal Thora du Plessis with a symbolic guard of honour and yellow roses, each representing a learner at the school.

Laerskool Kruinsig welcomed its new principal, Thora du Plessis, on January 14, marking the first time a female has held the position in the school’s history.

During the celebration, the school’s teachers presented her with a symbolic task that she will carry throughout her tenure as principal.

Learners formed a guard of honour from Nederduitse Gereformeerde Kerk – Kempton Kruin to Laerskool Kruinsig, presenting du Plessis with yellow roses.

Each rose represented a learner at the school. In accepting the flowers, du Plessis pledged to care for and support every child at Kruinsig.

Assisted by the school’s prefects, Du Plessis collected the roses along the pathway.

By the end, she held a full bouquet representing the entire student body and promised to foster a nurturing environment for learners, staff, parents and the wider community.
