‘Finger slip’ at till nearly cost her R500

She was charged almost R600 for a R 79.74 transaction

LEELA SINGH writes:

I would like to make the public aware of how easily we can be robbed at till points at supermarkets.

I recently purchased items to the value of R79,74 which I paid for with my credit card. I left the store and proceeded to my car, not expecting an sms from my bank informing me of the transaction because the transaction was below R100.

To my horror, I received a message on my phone from my bank, notifying me of a transaction of R579,74 that went off my account.

I ran back to the store, forced my way back in (store was closed and the guard refused me entry), demanded to see the manager and explained the situation. The manager did not seem moved or concerned about what just happened.

All he could tell me was to come back the next day because all the tills were closed.

There was nothing further I could do, so although I was unhappy and disgusted, I took down the manager’s name and left. I contacted him the next day to remind him of the incident and was told to come to the store to fetch my money.

I stopped and picked up the money and found out, to my utter disgust, that the cashier involved was still going about her work as if nothing had happened. When I questioned the manager, all he could say was they needed to look at footage.

When is he going to look at this footage? This was no finger error or mistake of any kind because a lot of buttons have to be pushed to get cash back of R500.
