Do something about dangerous road

The double carriage road between Zuurfontein Road, Kemptonpark and Midrand towards the N1 highway has become one of the most dangerous roads to travel on.

The emergency lane is now an express fast lane for taxis and the latest fast and furious cars. These drivers are extremely aggressive and disregard all other motorists; travelling at speeds of well over 120km/h. They swerve from lane to lane, cutting off other vehicles left, right and centre.

The scenario at the traffic lights, especially at the intersection near Carstenhof Clinic and the intersection thereafter under the Gautrain bridge, is incredibly dangerous and numerous accidents take place at these intersections.

The reason for this is drivers ignore the red lights, amber and green are to beautify or lit up the intersections. Many drivers slow down near these intersections and then accelerate and enter the intersection at high speeds.

On many occasions drivers will hoot at a motorist who waits for the traffic light to turn green to move out of the way at these intersections.

The speed limit varies from 80km/h to 100km/h. Needless to say motorists ignore this and “clock up” speeds well in excess of 140km/h. There is no control or visible presence from the metro police department, especially early mornings and evenings.

I find the general attitude of certain drivers is I must be first and I must be in front of you to be at work first. To be courteous and patient toward others on the road is not for these road hogs on the road.

As a matter of fact, they do not know how to be “nice” towards others. I suggest stricter control must be done on this horrible stretch of road by the metro police and a tougher stance towards uncontrollable, selfish and highly aggressive drivers.

We do not require more road rage incidences on any of South Africa’s roads.
