Stop passing the P91 buck

CONCERNED ROAD USER of Terenure writes:

Dear Ekurhuleni Municipality, this letter draws attention to the road known as the P91 or R25.

It specifically refers to the single lane section that starts near the P91/De Wiekus Road section and runs all the way past Esselen Park in both directions. Why is it that all roads surrounding Kempton Park has benefited from various forms of upgrades over the past few years yet nothing has been done to this particular stretch of road for many years?

As is known to all residents, this road carries very large quantities of traffic every day, yet nothing is done to alleviate the congestion.

And please do not insult our intelligence by indicating that the “buck is to be passed” to a different level of governance such as provincial or national or whatever. We know that they respond to notifications and requests from your level.

For once, please take responsibility and act according to the accountability granted to you by the residents of Ekurhuleni. That is your solemn duty and you were sworn in for exactly that purpose.

We thus appeal to the Municipality of Ekurhuleni to urgently undertake to upgrade (and broaden) this stretch of road to the benefit of all the residents that are forced to use this road daily. Please do not hide behind budgets and other low forms of shying away from the issue at hand.

All the roads leading out of Kempton Park to northern areas such as Tembisa, Olifantsfontein, Centurion and the like are in desperate need of upgrade and have been neglected for many years.

Elgin Road and the bridge that forms part of Elgin Road comes to mind, this being another huge traffic problem that has not been addressed at all.

In short: Please answer us truthfully and honestly and don’t dodge the question with fairy-like answers.

We,the residents that voted you into your positions, are awaiting an urgent answer.
