Green arrow at Beukes Road is back
Express still has no clarity on the functioning of a traffic light at the fire station
DM writes:
Can the traffic department please explain what has happened to the green arrow that used to allow people travelling along Pretoria Road and wanting to turn right into Beukes Road in Glen Marais, to get a chance to do so?
The arrow is no longer working and you can sometimes sit for ages waiting for a chance to turn right as the traffic flow along Pretoria Road is very bad, particularly in peak hours.
Many a time there are a number of cars wanting to turn right into Beukes Road but there is only ever chance for one car to turn, and you can forget about someone coming from the other direction giving you a chance to turn.
I would also like to know why the fire department in Spartan is now stopping the flow of traffic along Kelvin Road by having the traffic light at the fire station operate like a normal traffic light, ie it turns red every 90 seconds or so for traffic travelling along that road.
Very few vehicles ever come out of the fire station premises and therefore traffic on Kelvin Road is held up unnecessarily.
In the past, that traffic light was controlled by a pressure switch so it would only turn the traffic lights on Kelvin Road red when a vehicle was exiting the premises.
The metro failed to reply to this letter but we have noticed the arrow at Beukes Road is back – Editor
