‘Amazing’ drivers are a danger on our roads

So, if you’re in such a hurry to get to work, maybe you should leave earlier

SHANA HOBBS writes:

I don’t suppose I’ll ever understand the way some people drive in South Africa.

But this morning, September 25, I was actually even more amazed. Driving to work, I found myself stuck behind a “abnormal load” truck.

I admit, the truck did a top speed of about 20km/h but he was pulling a heavy load in morning traffic. So I patiently sat behind it knowing sooner or later it would turn off the road I was on.

But everyone else on the road could not do this. No. They had to overtake. And there was nowhere to overtake, so they found themselves driving in the lane of oncoming traffic.

Well, obviously this is something that is allowed on South African roads, because everyone was doing it, so it must be fine.

I mean, really people, you’re too impatient to sit behind a truck for five minutes, so you’ll endanger yourself and other innocent people on the roads. If you are so impatient, why don’t you turn off the road and take an alternate route.

This truck had a job to do. Probably taking an urgent delivery somewhere. He has the right to use the road just as much as anyone else.

So, if you’re in such a hurry to get to work, maybe you should leave earlier in the mornings instead of being a danger on our roads.
