Fireworks: dog owners should take precautions

'I am ashamed that people have to be told to care for their animals'

COLIN CALDWELL writes:

More letters on fireworks, this time from Barbara and Horrified Dog Lover.

Yes, it is very sad that animals suffered during the evening of December 31 but let’s direct our anger to the correct people responsible.

Everyone knows that we celebrate the old year with fireworks and the date never changes – it is the 31st of December, every year.

So instead of blaming others, take precaution like most of us do. Not only for our animals but also babies and young children.

How, you ask, well if you really cared about your animals then do what my daughter does. She gets a mild sedative for these occasions from her vet.

And babies, well just put a cotton wool plug in their little ears, it is called responsibility, so take it and stop blaming others for your negligence.

Ashamed you say! So right, I am ashamed that people have to be told to care for their animals. The fact that they go out to party or on holiday and not make provision for their animals is a disgrace and you should be ashamed.
