There are reasons why fireworks are illegal

Thank you for all the stories about the destruction that is caused by fireworks.
Although the content is graphic and hard to look at, I am convinced that it is necessary so people can start taking responsibility for their actions and stop using fireworks.
I am saddened by the letter of Colin Caldwell who clearly has no sympathy for anyone and only thinks of his own selfish need to party with no responsibility or care in the world.
The facts are that fireworks are illegal when used in a built up area and you can sugar coat it and try and get around it, but if you are using fireworks in a built up area, you are busy with a criminal act. There are reasons why this is illegal and dangerous.
Colin is just deflecting all responsibility onto people with pets and children. Maybe we can drug our pets and put cotton wool in our ears. This does not mean that using fireworks is all right or legal.
It is time that the authorities start fining people and that this is reported on in the newspaper.
People have the right to sit in their own homes and not be bombarded with fireworks. I certainly have had enough throughout the years and I am looking forward to a nice quiet new year’s eve this year.
