Yes Sir, shalom and amen

'I will ask Him to point you out in the throngs at His feet'

MR M HUGGINS of Birchleigh writes:

Please may I address Struwwelpeter, Piet Uys, in absentia, through your pages?

Mr Uys, Sir, I am bitterly disappointed that you have finally capped your pen. It was a mighty sword that you wheeled without fear or favour. A job very well done.

Every Thursday I paged through Kempton Express in great anticipation. In your words there were all sorts. Humour. Gravity. Political enlightenment. Comment. And much more. A damned good read!

Then you weren’t there for many weeks. Then a brief announcement that you were in hospital. Then last night’s devastating page 10. My deepest condolences to your family.

On that great day that I too have to shake the hand of God, I will ask Him to point you out in the throngs at His feet, so that I may shake your hand and thank you in person for the hours of entertainment you have given me. You never knew me but I know you well.

Yes Sir, shalom and amen.
