‘I won’t eat anything grown in my own poo’

'Both my husband and myself refuse to eat vegetables'

MRS KL PIKE of Pomona writes:

The letter from Byron Price of Serengeti (Kempton Express September 24) really touched my heart, he has my sympathy.

When I lived in Glen Marais ext 19, this stench was very often unbearable. Now I live in Pomona and for the past two weeks the smell has once again become a major problem. I also do not want to breathe the air outside my own home.

All I smell is poo and more poo

Big stink will be back

I feel that people living in the very large area where this smell pervades are having their “human rights” laughed at. I feel so sorry for the people who have paid lots of hard-earned money on a home at Serengeti.

I also sympathise with the developers who are currently trying to sell new homes in the area. As soon as prospective buyers smell the air, they will not buy there. The whole of our population deserves better than this.

I suggest we bear in mind what happened in the UK when the farmers decided they would feed cattle with cheap feed containing sheep’s brains.

This resulted in Mad Cow Disease which affected both the cattle and humans. The result was terrible, the government at the time insisted there was no danger, and cattle and people died.

After reading the article regarding the cause of this smell in Kempton Express some time ago, I found it difficult to believe that the municipality allows this “farmer” to get away with growing vegetables in human waste with all the health issues this raises in a country where many illnesses are prevalent.

I am afraid that since learning that it is legal for vegetables to be grown in this way, both my husband and myself have refused to eat vegetables. I would not eat anything grown in my own poo, let alone in someone else’s.
