All Blacks were in uniform, the Boks were not

The Bokke - what a sight

BILL SMITH writes:

During the 60s and 70s many of us served time with the armed forces.

The military was extremely strict regarding the uniform – one was not allowed to wear a coloured T-shirt under the uniform shirt, no coloured socks or any other civilian clothes were to be worn over or under the uniform.

I now look at our Bokke. What a sight, rugby boots are multi-coloured, yellow, green, red. Some players even wear one red and one green rugby boot.

Many players wear long underpants sticking out of their shorts, some white, some black.

Then Bryan Habana wears long sleeves while all the other players have short sleeves. Is this uniform?

On the other hand – looking at the All Blacks, they all wore black rugby boots.

Some players may have been wearing long underpants but they were also black, matching their shorts. They were all uniform.
