Speeding taxi runs over family dog

Maybe the traffic police didn't think that taxis would take alternate roads

VALERIE ELOFF writes:

On Friday afternoon (January 22) at about 5pm there was a roadblock on Commissioner Street which resulted in taxis racing down Van der Walt Street to avoid the roadblock.

When my daughter turned into her driveway and opened the gate to drive in, a taxi nearly connected with her car.

Her Scottie happened to spot a cat on the opposite pavement and charged across the road. That same taxi drove at high speed, unfortunately running over the dog, killing her.

Granted, the dog was at fault but the unnecessary high speed and total disregard for anyone’s safety – the driver didn’t stop or even wave sorry – makes me wonder why all five taxis, plus many more, were driving at extreme speed to avoid the roadblock.

Maybe the traffic police didn’t think that taxis would take alternate roads but their expressions leave much to be desired.
