Ants drive new Bonaero Park dad crazy
'I am not the only resident complaining about ants'

Since we moved into Bonaero Park we did not have an ant problem until now.
We have been staying in Bonaero Park for more than 15 years. Everywhere you go it is just ants and it is really getting annoying now.
So what I want to ask from Ekurhuleni Metro is, what are you doing about this environmental hazard?
I have only seen them spray once for the ants but now it looks to me they just don’t care anymore. When a utility bill is not paid they are very quick to switch off or disconnect.
In fact, I am not the only resident complaining about ants. I mean, you can’t live with them, it is really so frustrating. I have a newborn in the house and they are even inside her cot. It sucks to say the least.
Themba Gadebe, metro spokesman, replies:
It is not Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s responsibility to do pest control on private stands but the metro is responsible for this service on council premises.
The metro can only intervene if the matter becomes a health nuisance in terms of the Public Health By-laws, whereby the owner would be served with a notice to remedy the situation. The council would carry out the work and the cost thereof be debited to the owner.
According to an investigation conducted by metro officials in this regard, no outbreak of ants was found in the Kempton Park area.
