How can one turn a blind eye to the following blatant arrogance, defiance and criminal activities that just pass by daily?
My wife uses the Gautrain and the Gautrain Bus daily, from Rhodesfield to Sandton City and Monte Casino.
On Friday, May 20, she noticed for the umpteenth time that the boarding card of a passenger in front of her registered “invalid”.
This woman was also told by the bus driver to just ignore it and take a seat, which is standard procedure for him in respect of invalid cards.
My wife pointed out to the bus driver that this woman was not paying, something which was obvious to any intelligent person. The response to my wife’s query by this defiant, arrogant and rude bus driver was a short: “Look here, I am the bus driver and I will decide who can get on and who not.”
For the rest of the journey both of them laughed at her and passed rude remarks, which she just ignored as she is an intelligent, educated, mature woman who holds a senior position in the business she works for.
I told her she did the right thing,as it would just be an insult to her as a person to have any kind of conversation with or exposure to people at their level.
About three hours before this incident, I bought and paid for 108 bricks at Builders Warehouse, for a small alteration at my house. When the bricks were counted and loaded as per my receipt, which I had to give to them to do the loading from, the person who was packing the bricks on my vehicle asked me in a soft voice if I did not want any extra bricks.
I told him that I could not do it as I did not need it and did not want to expose myself to criminal activities and also the possibility of having my vehicle confiscated. He told me it would never happen and maybe I must take just six bricks. I told him, no thanks I am not a criminal, took my vehicle and left.
Whoever thinks he or she can build a nation with human beings like this is a super fool and the person that achieves it deserves to be honoured with the greatest monument in the world, but it sickens me.
