Machines for trainees pour in
Your article touched the hearts of various women whom donated their sentimental sewing machines
STEFAN HOUGH writes:
On April 21, some gutsy journalist placed an article in Kempton Express with the title, “One stitch at a time“.
In the professional article, several requests were made for donations of sewing machines and invitations made to interested parties. The reaction or “fruit of jounalism” was so hectic that the leader, Mrs Gwen Kruger, approached the congregation for more trainers to cater for the increased numbers.
Your article touched the hearts of various women whom donated their sentimental sewing machines, as can be seen in the attached picture. The other picture shows the gratifying smile of a beneficiary of the training and the gift of a workable machine.
To those persons who donated their sewing machines for this good cause, take note of the treatment of your donation. Every machine, regardless of its condition, is taken to the workbench where its cover plates are removed. Then it is de-fluffed, de-linted, steam-cleaned, broken parts are replaced, it is properly lubricated and then assembled.
Thereafter, test seams are done where the tensions, timing, etc are tuned in order to produce a professional stitch. The gratefulness and appreciation demonstrated when a machine is handed over, free of charge, is priceless.
So what is happening in this environment of Gwen Kruger, where Kempton Express is involved?
We experienced that women are empowered to such an extent that their self-confidence, self-worth and hope to generate additional income for their families increased tremendously.
After Gwen’s pep talk, what an amazing vibe among the trainees of different cultures, ages and nationalities could be heard. It reminds you of the film: “As it is in Heaven.”
Thank you, ladies, for assisting in creating miracles in our Kempton society.
