Businesses mess up our roads

The local municipality should enforce stricter rules to govern the transporting of certain goods

TYRIQUE SAMUEL writes:

Many businesses make use of CR Swart Drive as the main distribution route in Kempton Park.

There are a few businesses like ready-mix concrete businesses that contribute to the disfigurement of the city.

Another example is transporting of recyclable metal. The truck does not have a secured sail covering the goods and after a bump here and a bump there, a few pieces of metal fall off the truck, which could possibly cause an accident as cars try to avoid the piece on the road.

Damage such as the one ready-mix concrete companies cause, contribute to two major expenses – cost to other road users when loose stones deflect off tyres and crack windscreens, chip paint work etc; and secondly, major expenses to the local municipality who has to remove these hazards and restore the road.

The local municipality should enforce stricter rules to govern the transporting of certain goods. The metro police/police should monitor such movements and where non-compliance is found, hefty fines should be issued.

This is our city and we all should be held accountable for keeping it clean so the kids still to be born can also enjoy it.
