Taxis on Pretoria Road: EMPD’s help is needed

How long must we put up with this kind of reckless, irresponsible, immature driving?

BERT WATSON writes via Facebook:

I would like to ask Kempton Express to help the community by pressuring the EMPD to crack down on drivers (especially taxi drivers) who blatantly run red lights, even in the face of oncoming traffic.

As Kempton residents, we see such abuse daily but yesterday a full taxi almost caused a serious accident on Pretoria Road when it went straight through a red light at high speed.

The light had been red so long that the first car with the green light had already cleared the intersection. The second car saw the taxi coming and stopped, allowing the taxi to speed through the intersection.

Ironically, the taxi then drove in an unhurried manner, following a route up past Festival Mall and Builders Warehouse to De Wiekus Road. Had the driver of the second car not seen the taxi coming, he and a number of occupants in the taxi could easily have been killed.

How long must we put up with this kind of reckless, irresponsible, immature driving? Until serious enforcement starts and these utterly selfish and foolish drivers are taken off the road, the lives of road users and pedestrians will continue to be endangered daily.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
