VIDEOS: EMPD mum on dangerous Pretoria Road taxis

'I would like to know what action is going to be taken to sort out this problem?'

I read an article in Kempton EXPRESS a few weeks back about the state of Pretoria Road, its bad drivers, etc.

I would like to know what has been done about this, because whatever has been done, is not seen.

I travel Pretoria Road every day and in doing so am putting my life at risk. You have to contend with people who speed continuously, drivers ignoring the red lights, drivers speeding straight in the turning only lanes and taxis who have no regard for anyone else on the road.

The biggest problem on that road is where the walkover bridge comes from the train station over the road. Firstly, I don’t even know why there is a bridge there in the first place, as people leaving the station climb through the fence and walk across the busy road, dodging any traffic.

Secondly, the taxis dropping passengers off at the bridge (too lazy or stupid to drive around into the parking lot or drop-off zone) park the far left lane full. They merely stop in the middle of the left-hand lane.

This then forces anyone wanting to turn left up Highveld Road to either break their necks avoiding an accident, or drive badly by turning left from the right-hand lane.

I am tired of hearing that our police will “look into the matter”. In my opinion, if they took action against bad drivers, instead of just driving past them with a smile on their faces, our roads would be better and safer to drive on.

I would like to know what action is going to be taken to sort out this problem? Or is the EMPD going to wait until one of the public is killed on this road? God forbid if it is one of their own members or family members. Maybe then we would see something done about Pretoria Road.
