I come from Rhodesfield and have lived here all my life. It used to be such a nice neighbourhood until things started to change over the years.
Because of Rhodesfield being the area at OR Tambo International Airport, we should always have a clean place to show.
I think I speak for those in Rhodesfield who don’t know how to. We have an issue that is getting worse by the day.
For the past month, starting in December, Rhodesfield has turned into a mess. People are seen walking around in nothing but towels, kids are in the street late at night throwing rocks and stones and using vulgar language, but most of all, people are using the park in front of my house as a dump site.
We have complained and local police have caught those in action emptying their rubbish bags on this land. Excuses given were that rubbish bags are expensive.
When I looked out of my front yard on January 14, I saw what a disgrace this place had become. This is not a dump site but a field we use for kids to ride bikes and play soccer. What was once a park has now turned into a foul- smelling mess.
If rubbish bags are not “affordable”, use shopping bags to keep your rubbish until the municipality comes and clears it on rubbish day. It is not fair that everyone else obeys this, yet people who live on Gauntlet Street and those who drink in their cars at this park use Firefly Street as a local dustbin.
Something needs to be done about this stinking mess that we have going on before it’s too late. Clean up your waste -it’s simple hygiene.
