CLR JACO TERBLANCHE writes:
EMPD K9 Unit members swooped in on the illegal informal settlement off Dann Road in Glen Marais on January 13.
The search operation was aimed at ensuring that no criminal activities are taking place at this invaded land.

Over one-hundred shacks were searched whereupon dagga plants were uprooted and confiscated. There was also evidence found which indicated that some of the criminal activity taking place in the informal settlement is part of illegal land grabs.
The DA in Ekurhuleni congratulates the EMPD for a job well done. We hope that this raid is not a once-off exercise and that the EMPD will continue to investigate crime hot spot areas.
However, had the municipality enforced the applicable by-laws a year ago by getting the owner of the property to evict the illegal dwellers, then this informal settlement would not have existed and it would not be the criminal hub it is today.
The DA will continue to put pressure on the City of Ekurhuleni to enforce by-laws pertaining to the illegal usage of land.
