CLIVE SWANN of Bonaero Park writes:
Via the columns of our community newspaper Kempton EXPRESS, I wish to express my gratitude to Ward 23 Councillor André du Plessis for his invaluable assistance in speedily resolving a long-standing problem I recently had regarding the city’s waste department.
I had for some time fruitlessly tried to resolve the issue with several Ekurhuleni officials. In desperation, I even wrote to the city manager and mayor’s office but was not even accorded the professional courtesy of an acknowledgement or reply to my correspondence from those senior executive offices.
So much for ‘the buck stops at my desk’.
Du Plessis’ assistance during his extremely busy day gives hope that there are caring and dutiful politicians out there. Hopefully, we may one day have a DA administration in office in Ekurhuleni, which will consider service to ratepayers as paramount.
Council officials certainly do have a severe workload and understandably, cannot respond to every call for assistance. However, if we are fortunate to have a DA-headed council in office, may I respectfully suggest they establish an ombuds-committee whose dedicated portfolio will be to speedily resolve all ratepayers’ complaints which stubbornly remain unresolved with the council bureaucracy, especially as it is still virtually impossible to make telephonic contact with any council official.
