CONCERNED from Edleen writes:
I would like to commend executive mayor Clr Mzwandile Masina on the free farms initiative and that Ekurhuleni has the highest surplus in cash among metros (Kempton Express June 7).
This speaks of good management.
Then I pass Swartspruit and I want to ask: “Sir, surely a metro of our calibre can appoint experts to trace the sewage leak and fix it. Possibly it is just a cracked pipe somewhere.”
The pollution has dire consequences for the local wildlife, including birds. The pollution and stench are also detrimental to the health of Ekurhuleni’s citizens.
It gets worse, this polluted water is swept away every time when it rains and contaminates all the streams into which it flows, spreading the pollution and health risks. This might even eventually lead to a hefty environmental claim against our municipality.
I have voiced my complaint on e-siyakhokha and have been assured it has been forwarded to the proper authority. Then nothing further.
As an avid bird watcher, nature lover and proud resident of Ekurhuleni, I plead with you to set the wheels in motion to set this problem right and eradicate this blemish from Ekurhuleni’s excellent record.
