RITA NIENABER of Veld Street, Glen Marais writes:
On Monday, June 18, for the fifth week in a row, our refuse was not collected on the designated day.
I called numerous times to the number supplied by the call centre; most of the times it just rang. Out of 10 calls, you are lucky if one is answered.
When you do find someone, the standard response is they will contact the contractor to remove the waste but when you arrive from work, the bin and bags (as not all leftovers can fit into the bin after the first week of non-collection) are still on the pavement.
Other houses on the same street and neighbouring streets do not have the same problem. We even saw the truck on Fiskaal Street but our property and all the properties between Adrea and Vlei streets were not serviced.
After five weeks the bin is smelling terrible and each day I leave it outside, pedestrians walking by just dump all their waste in and around the bin. The pavement looks terrible of all the stuff just dumped.
I have emailed the manager of the waste management services two weeks ago and until today had no response on the email, not even an acknowledgement.
I do not know who to approach anymore but this cannot continue any longer.
