Dear metro, I would like to point out a few problems relating to your message in the latest edition of Kempton Express regarding the refuse collection.
1. Kempton residents are confused about your lack of collection, not the side of the road where it is done.
2. There are no schedules on the Ekurhuleni website, only for four townships, which I assume get preferential treatment because they pay more rates and taxes than the residential suburbs of Kempton. We know the refuse days by Facebook or by word of mouth.

• Metro fails to clear waste removal backlog as promised
3. Telephone number to enquire, is that a joke? I have yet to get any of the usual municipal landline numbers to answer.
4. Hydraulic problems? It was the responsibility of the person in charge of the new programme to make sure that the contractor had enough trucks and trucks that are in good working order.
5. Our collection is on Thursday and I spent four days, if not more, taking the wheelie bin in and out. Not only is there the risk to have it stolen but now to add insult to injury, the black bags inside are emptied and the bags get stolen, how low can you go?
6. We are lucky if the bins get emptied on weekends, is overtime the reason? And after two or three weeks of non-collection, you cannot blame the residents for having the bins overflowing with refuse.
Getting another bin is not the answer, collecting on time is.
Finally, I get the impression that your message does not have any substance and is meaningless and misleading – certainly not trying in all honesty to address the real problem, which is that we are paying for a non-existent service and last but not least, your salaries. Do you really care?
