Voter upset as the elderly ‘jump’ long voting queues

All of a sudden everybody in Bonaero Park was a pensioner or had some or other ailment

RICKY JORDAAN writes:

On May 8, I went to vote. I was in the queue at 6.30am. Needless to say it did not help me a great deal.

The voting station only opened at 7.15am.

All of a sudden everybody in Bonaero Park was a pensioner or had some or other ailment, as they were taken to the front of the queue with two or three other people accompanying them.

These people could then also vote at that time – nice way to jump the queue, don’t you think.

What really peed me off was disabled and old people were brought to the front of the queue by the officials.

Pensioners and disabled people had two days, May 6 and 7, to cast a special vote. The officials went to them. They did not have to leave their homes.

Why did they not make use of this?

My gripe is, if you have left your voting until the eighth, then you stand in the queue like everybody else and wait your turn.

What really got to me was the fact that when I complained to the DA representative, he gave me some story about this happened only one day in the year. When I told him I would never vote again, not for him or anybody else, I was told by him that made him not like me very much.

Well, I really do not give a hoot whether you like me or not. As it is, you do very little for this community, so you will not be missed.
