Refuse removal: where did it go wrong?

How can management expect their workers to keep collecting refuse day in and day out?

ADRIAAN of Edleen writes:

To the management of Kempton Park and more specifically those responsible for refuse removal:

I might be taking a stab in the dark here, but I think the refuse removal problem started when management decided to change the schedule.

Previously, refuse was removed on weekdays and when there was a public holiday, the schedule was moved by the equal number of public holidays there were in the week.

In other words, if there was one public holiday in the week, everybody’s collection date was moved up by one day the next week. If there were two public holidays in the week, the schedule was moved up by two days, and so forth.

Now, collection of refuse does not only fall on public holidays, it continues throughout weekends. In the past there was no problem by moving the collection dates because of public holidays. Why not change it back?

Secondly, the change to wheelie bins (which are here to stay and is accepted by most) does take longer to collect. Why not use the public holidays and weekends to maintain the trucks, and give the workers their well deserved time to rest?

How can management expect their workers to keep collecting refuse day in and day out, especially during public holidays and weekends. I thing that is very unfair to your workers or is collection on these holidays and weekends strictly voluntarily or are they paid overtime?

Like I said: I am taking a stab in the dark, but maybe there is some truth behind it?
