The problem we as citizens of Kempton Park experience at intersections, especially at Dann and Monument roads, with the illegal traders and individuals kneeling in the middle of the road is now totally out of hand and the metro police and/or police need to come up with a safety plan to stop this.
These traders are verbally abusing members of the public if you do not want to purchase from them, and to top it all, making it a racial issue as “whites do not want to buy from blacks’’.
They surely are living in the past.
The question now is, what happens if any of these law offenders are run over by a vehicle? Who will be to blame? Surely the metro police and police would be to blame as they should ensure safe road operations.
Another possibility would be to enforce a by-law that any vehicle operator who is purchasing from these traders be arrested and/or fined for doing business in the road, endangering other road users.
In doing so, we can rid our streets from this illegal trading.
The street sleepers are another health problem and danger and citizens should refrain from giving them food and blankets and rather donate that food and blankets to organisations that look after these people.
In stopping the traders, we can also contribute in stopping smash-and-grabs.
