Metro accused of lying about refuse removal

Van Riebeeck Park refuse removal has not been completed as stated.

DAVID SPOHR of Van Riebeeck Park writes:

In Van Riebeeck Park Estate, we have a residents’ WhatsApp group.

In the group is our local ward councillor Amanda Davis.

As everyone knows, refuse removal has been behind for weeks in the whole metro.

On December 8, the Department of Environmental Affairs sent a schedule where they claimed they were “up to date” and that refuse removal in Van Riebeeck Park had been “completed” during the weekend of December 7 and 8.

The schedule is not true. On the morning of December 9 at about 6am, I braved the rainy streets and took photos and a video of the refuse bins standing choc-a-block the way they have for the past two weeks.

The introduction of these ridiculous automated bin lifters have caused nothing but trouble.

Surely at some point the executive must realise that it is a failure and revert to the old system.

The notice sent to councillors over the weekend.
