REFILOE NT’SEKHE, DA constituency had: Tembisa South writes:
South Africa is a real banana republic – criminals can enter and leave the country as they please and nothing happens to them.
Last year, I submitted questions to the Gauteng MEC for Community Safety (SAPS) Faith Mazibuko about a house break-in gang operating in Tembisa. This gang was arrested and due in court on December 4.
They were arrested for the following crimes: attempted murder and house break-in.
The suspects were found to be from Mozambique and undocumented. In addition, they had previously committed the following crimes in South Africa: attempted murder and house robbery.
They were given 18-month prison sentences for house break-in while the other charges were pending. The stolen goods were recovered and returned to the two households that had been broken into.
More questions arise from this:
When foreign nationals are undocumented and commit a crime, are they supposed to be deported immediately after they complete their sentence?
Did the South African government deport these criminals after they served their sentences? If it did, how did they enter South Africa again?
What has happened to the attempted murder and house robbery charges?
It is concerning that despite the questions that have been answered by the MEC for Community Safety, there are more questions.
