Posters obscure street pole numbers

This makes it difficult to report street lights which are not working.

Van Riebeeck Park Resident writes:

We all know, or at least should know, that problems relating to either individual street lights or a section of street lights not working are to be reported to the municipality via the call centre (0860 543000), email (call.centre@ekurhuleni.gov.za) or the My Ekurhuleni App.

The streetlight poles are numbered and it is important to supply the number(s) to the municipality so the relevant department can easily locate the problem (and hopefully fix it).

However, in many suburbs it is virtually impossible to give the pole number, as it is obscured by advertisements. Some of these adverts are “legit” and authorised by the municipality, while others definitely are of the “informal” variety.

We can understand that the especially “legit” advertisers want their signs at a height which can be easily read by passing motorists (as well as pedestrians), but surely the municipality should ensure that whoever places the signs is told to not obscure the pole number?

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
