In reference to your article published on July 30, “Cost of prepaid electricity questioned”, I would like to request feedback from the metro but have run out of ways to do so.

We noticed this same inexplicable pricing differences for the last two months and none of it corresponds with CoE’s published tarrifs for 2020/21.
We fall under Tarrif A (ibt) A.1 first usage block.
We have contacted CoE on a daily basis for the last two weeks.
We initially got a response from the customer relations manager for Kempton Park who referred us to two other people, neither of whom have made the slightest attempt to get back to us, despite our daily follow-ups.
We purchased units to the value of R1 000.
That gave us 577.42 units, which translated to R1.73 incl per unit.
However, we purchased more units later in the month before we exceeded 500kwh on the 21st for R500 and only received 80.50 units.
That’s a ridiculous R6.21 incl per unit.
We have checked the usage and it was still within the first block, Tarrif A.1 the first block of their pricing scale, which is 100kwh to 600kwh.
This means we should still be getting units at R1.50 excl per unit and not R5.43 excl per unit as specified in their schedule.
We have also double checked and we have also not exceeded their 850kwh high usage threshold consecutively for 12 months.
That would classify us as heavy users subject to different fixed pricing of R2.03 per unit.
Even if we were classified as high users, we would still be billed the fixed rate of R2.03 per unit for the next 12 months, pending review.
So where are they suddenly pulling this R6 per unit out from?
We would like to get some official feedback from CoE, but have exhausted every avenue available to us.
The call centre is not an option and is never functional.
It’s always either down for maintenance, closed due to Covid-19 or simply never answered.
