‘CoE fails to switch on the lights’ – reader

"They then switched the streetlights off during the day and night. I phoned repeatedly to tell them that they misunderstood what I wanted."

Editor – At the beginning of November, I phoned the municipality to switch the street lights off during the day, as it is a waste of electricity.

They then switched the street lights off during the day and night.

I phoned repeatedly to tell them they misunderstood what I wanted.

I have also sent two emails explaining in detail they had misunderstood my complaint.

I am now at the end of my tether.

The last reference was on November 26 when I explicitly told them to switch on the street lights on Marthinus Crouse Avenue at night.

I phoned again on December 3, 7 and 10.

The man I spoke to said he would find out what was happening and would phone me back, which he never did. I then phoned again later in the day on December 10 and still the street lights had not been switched on at night.

During each phone call, I explained what the problem was. I do not know what to do to get the street lights switched on during the night. Such a simple request, but it seems impossible to implement.
Fed-up.

Editor’s comment – City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini commented:
Indeed, the frustration of the customer is understood and regrettable, as this looks like an issue that could have easily been resolved.

The street light complaint is noted and the Kempton Park depot will follow up on the complaint and give feedback to the customer.

Vandalism on street light infrastructure is a rising problem in the City.

The energy department will investigate possible theft or vandalism to the section of lights.

The street light network is more prone to be targeted by criminals during the day whilst circuits are not energised, but we will certainly look into this specific matter and revert to the customer.

The city apologises for any inconvenience.
