Opinion: Reader warns of motorcycle theft

“There has been a series of robberies of motorcycles in this area.”

Editor – I would like to bring it to the attention of the residents of Kempton Park, especially in the Glen Marais area, that there has been a series of robberies of motorcycles in this area.
It almost appears as if there is a syndicate at work here.
Please do not be complacent. The robbers go about their business quietly and load the motorbikes onto an LDV.
A motorcycle was stolen again on Tuesday night (March 22), or early hours of Wednesday morning (March 23), one house from where I live.
• Make sure no valuables are visible from the street.
• Padlock your gates, even if they are automated. The robbers lift the gates off the rail to get them open.
• Weld a device on top of the gate so it cannot be lifted.
• Ensure your gate motor has a safety cage over it. Motors are also very popular.
• React to the barking of dogs and any noises outside.
• Attach a siren or buzzer to your security lights around the property. Have cameras in place.
• Do not accost these robbers. Phone your security company immediately when you are aware of anything untoward happening outside.
• Do not apprehend them yourself. They may be armed and dangerous.
• Be alert at all times. Report any strange people and vehicles in your area.
I trust residents will duly note the above and stay safe.
